Learn more about CAA Auto Insurance.

The Canadian Auto Association (CAA) is a non-profit federation comprised of nine clubs with branches throughout the country. A CAA membership has long been considered an essential expense for drivers due to its track record of providing reliable and efficient roadside service and it has the numbers prove it: over 6.2 million Canadians are CAA members.

CAA has provided comprehensive auto insurance plans since 1974. Coverage is available for drivers in Ontario, B.C., the Atlantic provinces, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec.

What other insurance products does CAA offer?

Along with standard auto coverage and special policies for antique and classic cars, CAA offers a variety of other insurance options for individuals.

Home, condo, cottage and renter insurance: CAA has policies covering property, liability and personal items for homes and condos, plus tenant coverage for liability and personal belongings. You can add cottage coverage if you insure a primary residence through CAA.

Travel insurance: Many types of policies are available for a range of traveller needs, including coverage for emergency medical expenses and trip cancellation and interruption. There are packages tailored for visitors to Canada and vacationers (both single trip and multi-trip). You can also top up or extend your travel insurance if something keeps you away from home longer than expected.

Life insurance: A variety of term options for a different life insurance policy needs, plus guaranteed critical illness coverage.

Health and dental insurance: Standard health care coverage protects you from out-of-pocket medical costs, including vision, registered specialists, therapists, homecare and nursing. “Mix and match” dental and drug coverage policies can be tailored to meet your needs. You can choose from prepackaged plans or custom-build the coverage you want.

Accident insurance: Policies offer financial protection in the case of death from an accident, anywhere in the world.

Pet insurance: Three tiers of coverage are available for pets, all covering veterinary bills for accidents. More comprehensive policies add illness and dental coverage and include extras such as boarding fees and advertising and reward money to help bring a lost pet home.

Discounts

Canada’s own CAA car insurance provides members with a number of ways to save on their auto insurance premiums. Despite discounts and programs varying by club, members can generally expect to save by:

  • Insuring multiple vehicles with CAA (15% savings).
  • Installing snow tires (up to 5% savings on your premium).
  • Completing the CAA Connect program (save up to 15%).
  • Becoming a member (save 20% on your premium).

CAA car insurance offers a number of industry-standard auto insurance discounts along with some unique programs. However, the best way to find out what rates you’ll pay for car insurance is to compare the market online. Compare CAA car insurance quotes online alongside 50+ Canadian insurance providers to make sure you’re securing your best rate.

Special programs

CAA Connect - CAA rewards its members for being safe drivers through CAA Connect: a totally optional, usage-based insurance program. CAA will provide you with a small device to install in your car to gauge your driving habits. According to CAA, by participating, you could save up to 15% on car insurance after one year.

Forgive & Forget - With the Forgive & Forget plan, your driving record won’t be impacted by your first at-fault accident.

Legal Expense Insurance - Neighbour building a shed on your property? CRA auditing you? When you bundle your home and auto insurance with CAA, complimentary legal expense insurance will be added to your policy. Under the program, you’re guaranteed coverage for all reasonable legal expenses you incur. You’re also entitled to unlimited free legal advice from CAA’s special helpline, open all week, from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Is there an app?

Yes, there is a CAA app available. It not only stores your insurance agent’s information, but you can also use the app to call them directly.

In addition to that, members can request roadside assistance through the app, locate gas stations and get a quote for a new car battery — and have it installed as well. All you have to do is log in to the CAA app to access all these features.

How to submit a claim with CAA

If your vehicle is stolen or damaged and you need to make a car insurance claim with CAA, there are a few steps to follow.

Since CAA does not have a national office, you’ll need to call your local club using a local CAA phone number to make a car insurance claim.

After calling that number, a CAA insurance claims agent will assist you. Once you’ve been put in contact with a CAA insurance claims agent, they’ll answer any questions you have about your claim or your policy.. They’re available 24/7, all year-round. Find your club by visiting CAA’s website and following the prompt.
