The Capital One advantage.

Capital One helped pioneer the mass marketing of credit cards more than 20 years ago and continues to be an innovative provider of cards today. They offer Canadians several types of Capital One credit cards, from low-interest cards that can help you pay down debt sooner, to cards that offer great rewards just for making everyday purchases. Doing a side-by-side comparison of Capital One credit cards will help you narrow down your choice.

Capital One partners with MasterCard to offer you a selection of Capital One Mastercard credit cards. Capital One does not currently offer any Capital One Visa or Capital One Amex credit cards. Please check the Capital One site for more information on Capital One credit card partnerships.

Choosing the best Capital One credit card

When it comes to choosing the best Capital One credit card for your spending needs, you need to weigh in all your options.

Here are the different types of credit cards Capital One offers:

  • Capital One no annual fee credit cards: Capital One offers no annual fee credit cards so you can enjoy the flexibility and convenience of paying with a credit card, minus the yearly fee.
  • Capital One low interest rate credit cards: A Capital One low-interest rate credit card is great for you if you’re looking to avoid high-interest rates on your revolving credit card balance.
  • Capital One rewards credit cards: Earn rewards points with a Capital One rewards points credit card. Not keen on rewards points? You can also choose a Capital One cash back credit card to earn instant cash back on eligible purchases.
  • Capital One travel credit cards: If you’re a frequent traveller, take advantage of Capital One’s travel Mastercard and earn travel rewards to put towards future trips. Not to mention a wide variety of travel perks that come with a Capital One travel credit card such as low exchange rates, travel assistance and more.

How to apply for a Capital One credit card online

Once you’ve selected your card from all the Capital One credit card options, you can easily apply for your new Capital One credit card online by completing the online Capital One credit card application.

You’ll need to include the following in your application:

  • Your full legal name
  • Your current and previous addresses
  • Your annual income (gross)
  • Your employment details

During the screening process, the credit card provider reviews your personal credit file through a credit bureau such as TransUnion or Equifax to check if you’re eligible for the new Capital One credit card and credit limit. This will result in a hard credit check and your overall credit score may go down a few points. As long as you pay your Capital One credit card balance on time, your credit score will bounce back.

If you pass the Capital One credit card eligibility check, your new credit card will be quickly issued and mailed to your given address. Once you complete your new Capital One credit card activation, you’ll be able to use your card immediately.

About Capital One

Capital One is a U.S.-based financial services firm founded in 1988 and headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. The company helped introduce mass-marketing of credit cards in the 1990s is now the eighth largest U.S. bank by deposits. It offers a diverse portfolio of products including car loans, home loans and savings products.

Capital One opened its Canadian division in 1996 in Toronto, Ontario. Unlike its U.S. parent company, the Canadian branch only operates in the credit card market, partnering with well-known national brands to create an impressive array of specialty credit card products.
